"Hiring a Videographer Means You Have to Spend TWICE the Time Taking Photos?!?"
This is a common fear of couples - especially those who have a tight schedule on their day
Essentially, if you hire the right videographer, this should be almost entirely false
The videographer will be filming during all the posed photos, so they will capture most all of their content during the photographer's session with the couple
They might add a request here and there, but it will never add more than 5-10 minutes
"Photos are Plenty - I Don't Need a Video!"
If a budget gets tight, videography is often the first item to get cut from a wedding day, oftentimes because couples misunderstand the value
Photos are beautiful and do capture stunning moments for you to have forever, but they do not show movement, fluid laughter, or let you the tickle in your grandfather's as he tries to hold back his tears congratulating you on your marriage
Video captures the energy of your dance floor in a way that photos fall flat. You will relive your uncle absolutely breakin' it down, your grandma and grandpa dancing together
Video gives you a perspective of your day that you miss entirely - clips of the kids playing outside, your relatives chatting during the social hour, and even, if you work with me, well-wishes recorded from your loved ones
"My Cousin Has a Camera, He Can Film the Wedding"
The wedding video is so much more than the ceremony. The ceremony moments will be woven together with clips of you and your fiance, clips of you both getting ready, and moments of your reception. It will all be expressed together, with an underlying storyline of your love.
With a friend or relative filming, you are liking missing out on all editing
A camera placed on a tripod at the back of the venue just does not capture the same emotion and feeling as cameras that move with you as you walk down the aisle and see your groom for the first time
Imagine watching a movie where all the angles were from far away - you just miss connection with the characters - you guys on your wedding day:)
"We Will Probably Only Watch Our Video Once"
This might be true if you have a long ceremony and all you have is one continuous shot of the ceremony - it just is long and takes a time commitment to watch - life is busy!
But, with a highlight video, it is only an average of 7 minutes of your time! You will be surprised how many times you watch it.
I have had couples think these exact thoughts, then message me and say they can't stop watching it and it brings tears to their eyes every time. It is such a fun date night, they say, on anniversaries especially - to sit down and watch the wedding video
I have heard of a few brides who watch their video often because it lets them hear their grandfather's voice again, since he has recently passed away.
If there are any other misconceptions that you have with wedding videography, please send me a message below! I would love to chat with you an answer any questions, concerns, or fears you might have.
See ya later!
